PENA is one of the MoI bodies that provide services to citizens and foreigners. PENA was established by a Ministerial Decree issued on 9th April 1939. Its name was changed in 1953 to be "Migration, Passports and Nationality Service", then by a Presidential Decree 1842 issued in 1971 to be "Travel Documents, Migration and Nationality Service", and to "Passports, Migration and Nationality Service" by a Presidential Decree 191/2001 issued in 18 June 2001. Finally PENA acquired its final name under the Ministerial Decree 557/2018 regarding the modification of its name to be "Passports, Emigration and Nationality Administration".
